Maybe the blueness softens; her intuition suggests the slightest hint of hope. She stares deep into his eyes probing for the absent self. In awe, she watches as the stars slowly come out; filling the intense darkness with a million heavenly candles. She struggles for her bearings, seeking familiarity in the endless space; but the abstract celestial form defies her logic, swirling ever freely, until gradually melding and then finally dispersing. As black spans the full spectrum in its journey to white; she is gifted with the revelation of a perfect human spirit, naked of its earthly body, poised at heaven’s open gate. Her curious gaze overtakes him, to the indescribable beauty of transfinite universes beyond. He turns as though sensing her and she instantly realises the error of her ways.

Tearing herself away to the virtual reality of a near-spent beggar sprawled before her; she gently places her thumb and forefinger on his eyelids, and duly closes the windows to his soul. She is filled with remorse and in her search for solace carefully fastens the toilet cubical door. She lowers herself into the urine and lies on the cold stone floor beside him, embracing him tightly, their bodies entwined. Sensing he is slipping from her she seizes the syringe from his limp twisted arm, plunging it purposefully into the depths of her still beating heart.
